It’s Baseball Season

Detroit sports are a major part of our culture here in Michigan and it’s that time of year again! April in the D is a very exciting time, it marks the beginning of Tiger’s baseball and I’m just going to go ahead and say summer. I always grew up watching baseball and have always been a Tiger’s fan (even during the bad times). Every year when baseball begins Detroit starts to come alive again. It is defiantly worth the visit if you have not been.

Here are some more events going on in Detroit this summer:

There are many more events this summer, so check them out!

Hello Early Summer

This last week or so has been a pretty nice preview of summer here in Michigan. It has been consistently around 70 degrees and sunny out. All of this warm weather changes campus so much. All of a sudden everyone is in a great mood, playing outside. It’s like campus instantly comes alive again and I love it. This weather makes everyone forget about the jeans and sweaters and head straight to the shorts, flip-flops, and tank tops (and I’m not complaining). But be aware, this is Michigan, the weather is so unpredictable. One day its 70 the next its 40. This weather is very exciting so make the most of it and be outside, but don’t put away those warmer clothes just yet. You never know when Michigan weather is going to give you a nice little reality check that it’s only March.

St. Patty’s Day on an 80 degree day in Michigan
It’s 60 degrees here and that means winter is gone and spring is here! Bright colors, flowers, lace, and stripes are what I am looking forward too.

Top 5 Winter escapes

Winter can be tough to get through sometimes, but here are my top 5 places/activities that might help you enjoy it a little more.

1. Snowboarding/Skiing: Boyne Mountain

2. Sledding: Sleeping Bear Dunes (best sledding around)

3. Hot chocolate, a fire, and a movie: a great way to warm up after a long day outside

4. Ice skating: Downtown Detroit

5. Snowmobiling: Take a trip up north and ride the trails

Have fun this winter!

Finding an Internship

It’s that time in my life where I have to be a grown up and start looking for a “real job”. As much as I want to stop time right where I’m at, I am pretty excited to see where I will end up in the real world. I have been busy applying to internships, writing cover letters, and now I am starting to attend career fairs. Because these events require to look professional, I had to update my wardrobe a little (I don’t hate it). These are some of my favorite pieces that are professional, yet stylish at the same time.

pants

Pants: Gap: A little more edgy than the regular straight leg pant

lala

Kendi Everyday inspiration: bright pieces will make you stand out from the crowd

The Daybook inspiration: Neutral colors, perfect for summer

Jessica Simpson Pumps: comfy yet stylish

I love pairing black with bright, vibrant colors. It makes you stand out and it’s a nice change from the usual business black. Now all I need is an interview!

Pasta, pasta, pasta
pasta

Pasta, a delicious creation that I never get sick of. I have been on Pinterest a lot lately and I found this great recipe for a pesto pasta. It’s healthy, delicious, and it’s a nice change from the Prego I’ve been using. Here is the recipe

12 ounces orecchiette (or any type of pasta, I used shells)

1/2 pound green beans

1 cup frozen peas

1 tablespoon olive oil

8 ounces Italian-style chicken sausage links

1/3 cup pesto

1/2 cup parmesan cheese

It’s chilly out there

This winter has been surprisingly mild for Michigan, but there has still been those chilly days…like today its only 28 degrees out there! Walking to class in the winter can be close to torture sometimes without the right gear. Here are some winter essentials every college girl should have living in Michigan.
